How to Clean Tea Cups (or anything with tea or coffee stains!)

time for tea May 28, 2018

We love our tea and coffee, but we hate the stains! Our cups and pots are used everyday, and sometimes we look down to find icky brown stains in the cup or in and around the pot. Technically, it doesn’t hurt anything, it just looks unsightly, especially if you’re sharing afternoon tea with a friend. The method of cleaning we use is simple and can be used for coffee pots, mugs and anything else with tea or coffee stains. We thought a tutorial on how to clean your cups and pots, without scratching them, would be helpful! We love to clean our cups and watch them become sparkling clean!

Get ready to clean!

BAKING SODA FOR TEA OR COFFEE STAINS

Our cleaning method involves only two ingredients: baking soda and water. It’s that simple! All you need to do is sprinkle a little baking soda into your cup or pot, add a few drops of water (enough to make a paste) and gently rub until the stain disappears. If you have several items to clean, you can make a baking soda paste in a bowl to avoid having to sprinkle the soda in each individual cup.

Sometime we use our fingers to clean; sometimes we use a cloth. Either works unless you can’t get into the crevices with your fingers. To get into a spout, we normally use a cotton swab, as we don’t happen to have a small bottle brush, but you could certainly use a bottle brush.

Rinse well with water.

Here are some Before and After pictures. The tea cup particularly is so much cleaner! Bakings soda to clean tea or coffee stains really does the trick.
